This week in Sacred Space we once again return to our look at The Tabernacle. In doing so, we address a huge topic for people everywhere. This is something that people who already know God struggle with and it also impacts people who don’t know God.
Most people, in some way or another, long to be close to God. The problem arises because what we don’t realize is that closeness has a cost. This is vividly illustrated and brought to life in what we understand about The Tabernacle in the Old Testament. But don’t get so lost in the look toward the past that you miss the impact it has in the here and now. Yes, closeness has a cost, but once you know it – then it can happen for you. The end result, you can be close to God. Get ready, here we go…off to The Tabernacle.

Join us for “Sacred Wondering” as we delve into the often-misunderstood world of Tabernacle worship, specifically the outer courtyard and the altar of sacrifice. Forget your assumptions about ancient religious practices – this wasn’t a “drop-off” service where priests did all the work.
In this powerful session, we explore Leviticus chapter 1 and uncover the shocking, personal, and graphic details of what it truly meant for an Israelite to bring an offering to God. From personally choosing a spotless animal, to laying hands on its head, to slaughtering it yourself and then skinning and preparing it – worship was an immersive, bloody, and visceral experience.
Jeff challenges us to understand that this intense, hands-on process wasn’t just ritual; it was a profound act of identification and transfer, where the worshipper literally felt the weight and cost of atonement. Just as ancient Israelites couldn’t outsource their sacrifice, we cannot outsource our worship today.
This session is a vivid reminder of the holiness of God, the brutal cost of sin, and the immense, personal sacrifice of Jesus on the cross that ultimately made a permanent way for us to enter God’s presence. Prepare to be challenged, deeply moved, and gain a profound new appreciation for the Passion of the Christ and what it truly means to engage in worship.

Today we begin a new celebration worship series that might forever change the way you worship and approach God. It is a series called Sacred Space. Each week we will take a fresh glimpse at something that is thousands of years old. The Tabernacle… why you may ask? Why do you need to know this? Because it reveals to us some things about God that we need to know. As we come off of the celebration of Easter, we see the love that Jesus has for us and how He has made it possible for us to know Him. So, if He wants us to know Him, we should get to know Him. One of the earliest and most important glimpses we get of God is in the Old Testament in the Tabernacle. Today we begin with Glimpse One – Move-In Day and we discover some things we may not know about God and why they matter to each of us, right now!
