We are discovering what we have called The Champion’s Code. The series is Rise Above – because in order to become what we are created to be, to live by the Champion’s Code, we must choose to rise above the crowd and become something radically different than what the rest of the world might demand. The reality for a person who is truly a champion is that they live in the paradox between service and greatness. We kicked off the Rise Above series with an honest look at the greatest battle we all face – the war within ourselves. We discovered that the key to being a champion is discovering peace. Once you have peace you are then prepared to fight! But as champions we need to know what we carry into the fight. In this study we explore that very concept. The true champion knows that lesser opponents will depend upon bows and arrows but the weapon of a warrior that is truly a champion is wisdom. So get ready, we are plunging into a passage of Scripture that most people have never stopped to explore. On this day, the passage will no longer be invisible and what we see can change everything.

This sermon is a sobering and urgent exploration of the devastating consequences of unrepentant sin, using the tragic life of Samson as its primary warning. The speaker argues that sin is not a humorous or light matter, but an “explosive and expensive” reality that blinds, binds, and eventually grinds down even the strongest of God’s champions. By tracing Samson’s downward spiral—from his initial blessings to his ultimate demise as a captive “grinder”—the sermon emphasizes that sin always takes a person farther than they planned to go, keeps them longer than they intended to stay, and costs more than they ever wanted to pay.
Ultimately, the message serves as a call to radical self-examination and immediate repentance. The speaker cautions believers against the arrogance of thinking they can “handle” secret sins or flirt with the world without consequence, noting that even a champion like Samson was devoured because he thought he could “shake himself free” just as he had in the past. The sermon concludes with an invitation to “name and nail” sin to the cross, urging listeners to move beyond a superficial faith and embrace a life of total victory and obedience through the grace of God.
